The Concept/Philosophy and Framework of Jazsapiens - Elevator Music
INTRO
Hello everyone, this is Rivulet.
I wish to complement the release of our mixtape "Elevator Music" with the concept and framework behind it. There were many ideas we had for other tracks, but unfortunately some of the songs had to be cut even if we thought they were good, just so that the mixtape’s overall mood would stand without any musical mismatch.
The feel of this mixtape, as you may already know, is very jazzy.
We decided to take this route, because we believe jazz is one of the roots of hip-hop, and doing this acts as a subliminal message of tracing back to the unique origins of our music, blending these roots with the branches of modernity.
JAZSAPIENS
- The Formula -
Jaz: Music Roots + sapiens: Human Roots + Randomness (an underrated way of thinking) = Jazsapiens
Jazsapiens = ([Formation, Re-formation, Trans-formation] = origins) + ([Jazzercise 1, 2] = anticipation) = Our origins and our experience from our roots create anticipation for the future.
Elevator Music
When we mean elevator music, we mean music that elevates you. But we believe the familiar term “elevator music” portrays a great message for our mixtape. Since elevators are made to transport people and things from different levels or floors, we wish for our music to open its doors to every floor of every genre/musician/music aficionados and welcome them in this world of inherently restrictive hierarchy. Simply put, music is loved by all, performed by all, and understood by all. It is rare for elevator music to be deeply appreciated, but for the time being when we take elevators it is an accompaniment so immaculate that this form of music seems to create an identity for itself. We hope our mixtape is a good representation of that identity when observing your life that travels through these metaphorical elevators.
Tracks
T.o.Y. Soldiers – T.echnology has O.vercome the Y.outh ß Innovative title? Or does it not keep pace with technology? No matter, because technology has overcome the youth. This song takes a deviously sarcastic twist to the generation driven by technology.
To The Sea, To The Sky – The name Rivulet means a small stream, and Aero-K reminds us of something in the sky. Our combination spreads music like flowing rivers into the oceans that surround us and high into sky that people look up to.
Player – A story/monologue of a player who played himself by playing others. Play the track and enjoy the show.
Definitive Cool – What really is cool? Is it following trends, being a rebel, or just accepting everything and considering yourself a moderate? Whatever it may be, make your “cool” definitive to who you are.
Flowers By The Sidewalk – I still wonder how flowers grow out of the cracks by the sidewalk. I’m glad old-fashioned beauty like this still exists even under heaps of unnatural creation and pressure.
